BPW Pilbara Charter Night, July
2000
The
recently formed BPW Pilbara Club is now an official member of the
extended national and international Business and Professional
Women's network.
On July 17 the Pilbara Club was formally "chartered" at a
special function at Archipelagos Restaurant, Karratha attended by 40
members and guests. The guest list included representatives
from State
and Federal levels of BPW Australia as well as from local and state government, other local support clubs and BPW Pilbara's founding
sponsor, Karratha College.
Kay Exell (BPW WA Division President), Joy Whitfield (BPW WA
Division Communication) and Joan Morton (AFBPW Finance Officer)
visited Karratha for this event and welcomed local members into BPW
Australia and the International Federation of BPW. BPW Pilbara
currently has over 30 members and certificates were presented to each
Pilbara club member present. The opportunity was taken to
explain the aims of BPW and the founding of BPW Pilbara.
The occasion was combined with the AGM for the new club at which the
new executive committee was elected. On behalf of the club,
the Incoming President, Jessica Worrall, thanked the Interim
Committee responsible for establishing BPW Pilbara.
Following the AGM and dinner, an informative and entertaining
address by the keynote speaker Paul Moxham from Moxham Motors, on
'Developing Professional Relationships with Your Customers', was
appreciated by all.

Birth of BPW Pilbara, May 2000
In 1999, West Pilbara College of
TAFE (then
Karratha College), BPW
Pilbara's official sponsor, held a Women in Leadership & Management
Program. A major recommendation of this program was to
develop networking and mentoring strategies, both internal and
external to the college. It was felt that establishing a new
and integral women's group in Karratha would encourage
professional development of both college and local professional
women. On a personal level, it would improve networking
opportunities in the Pilbara community and foster new and
beneficial relationships. An information evening held at the West
Pilbara College Seminar Centre on 1st December 1999 was attended
by over 40 college female employees and other interested women
from the Karratha business community. From this group of
enthusiastic women a steering committee was formed to
develop strategies, objectives and frameworks for forming a BPW
Club in the Pilbara.
Thanks and congratulations must go to founding
members...
